28 Weeks

We're in the homestretch! The third trimester typically starts at week 28, and last until week 40 and sometimes even beyond! Most women gain an average of 11 pounds during this trimester alone. At this point in your pregnancy, it's likely that I'll be having mixed feelings, ranging from feeling like I've been pregnant forever, to being super nervous abotu labour and birth.

By this week, the baby weighs about 2.3 pounds and may measure 14.8 inches from top to toe. At about this time, the baby can open it's eyes and turn it's head if it notices a continuous, bright light shining from the outside. The fat layers are beginning to form, and his/her fingernails are appearing.

So for the last couple days, I've been sore! It feels as though the baby is so low, and pushing down so hard, that it's bruised my... *ahem*... lady area. It's painful to roll over in bed, it's painful to get out of a sitting position... it pretty much just hurts. Rob assures me that the pregnancy book says that a little pain is normal. Well, we'll see about that at my next OB appt because I'll SURE be asking if it's supposed to hurt!

Other than that - we're getting ready for the baby. Rob decided he's tired of baby things lying around, so he's ready to get the crib and dresser... now we just need to decide if it's this weekend, or next. We're going to be able to finally put away some of the baby clothes, buy some essentials (like diapers) and get a hospital bag ready! And last night, Shannon gave us an awesome gift - a rainforest play mat! I was excited, so when I got home, I marched into the baby's room and opened it and attached all the little rattles and stuff.
Only about 12 weeks left!!!
