Race... to the Music!

What’s a party without someone to play the music, right? And no, mom you can’t control the iPod…

That being said, Rob and I needed to begin our search for the perfect DJ. But where do you start?? Well, it’s always a good idea to start where the free stuff is, and we won that free dry ice show with Good Vibrations. So, we’ll start there.

Thursday night, we stayed late after work, had some dinner at Shoeless Joes, and drove around a bit. We made it to Hwy 7 and 27 for our 8pm appointment and went in to meet Joe. We went in for our consult and everything seemed to go fairly well. Joe was very personable, he answered all our questions in a very professional manner and gave us a great first impression of the company. Rob, however, remained bored.

When the time came for us to be shown all the different “a la carte’s” you can purchase with your DJ package, we were hauled off to a little room, painted black. Joe showed us the one light you get with the ‘basic’ package. Nothing spectacular… Then, he showed us the semi-intelligent lights. Well, don’t Rob’s eyes light up like a little boy getting his first bike! I mean, the lights, the mirror ball, the smoke effects, he wants it ALL!!

When the demonstration is over, Joe brings us back into the office and goes over prices with us. I’m not surprised to see the prices, they’re fairly uniform across the board (I think). But I am surprised that we went from: “Just the DJ, no bells and whistles, we’re fairly simple people” all the way to: “We want everything. What’s your biggest package?? Perfect!”

Needless to say, we knew we needed some cool down time. We were clearly blinded by the lasers and we needed to take a couple days to decide. Lasers aren’t cheap you know LOL

When we tell Joe that we want a couple days to think about it, he lays it on SUPER thick. I mean, really… you’re telling me you have 9 weddings booked for my day, 17 months from now? You only book 10 weddings a night? The DJ you were thinking of for us is still available?? How wonderful a coincidence! Wow…. We better hurry!

Funny how up until now, all we’ve heard is: “you guys have LOTS of time” and now, it’s a race to book or we may lose them! Well, we’re taking our chances… we booked another couple of appointments with different DJ’s. Tonight we’re going to go see Platinum Music, highly recommended by a couple girls on CB and of course Amanda. At least if we book with these guys… we can see what kind of job they’ll do at Amanda’s wedding! Then we’ve got DJ Emporium next week on Tuesday and Veriation Music the following week.

I hope we can wait that long…. We don’t want to be left without a DJ….
